DEATH BY GONG – Unveils Anthemic New Single “Heavy Air” with Video from upcoming Album “Descalator”, Announces October Tour Dates

DEATH BY GONG are a new band featuring Jobst M. Feit (RADARE), Peter Voigtmann (SHRVL / ex-THE OCEAN) and Chris Breuer (ZAHNHEADS.). DESCALATOR is driven by a tension of heavyness and vulnerability, fusing the epic sound of FAILURE or TORCHE with the soft vocal delivery and song craftsmanship of ELLIOTT SMITH, shoegaze guitar clouds in the vein of MY BLOODY VALENTINE or DIIV and synthetic textures that could have been penned by Geoff Barrow (PORTISHEADBEAK). A sonic exploration of human decline in all its facets.

The album was recorded by Peter Voigtmann at DIE MÜHLE in Gyhum and mixed as well as mastered by Joe Joaquin (SLUTVAN HOLZENMUFF POTTER). Artwork and graphic design by Fabian Bremer (AUARADAREVELCROS).

Jobst M. Feit (Guitar, Vocals) comments: Heavy Air” is the song with the biggest tension between the lyrical and musical levels of expression. What is probably the most downbeat lyric is contrasted with what might be the most anthemic musical moment on the album – and then dissolves into an ether of synthesised sounds.

The thematic pillars of the song – delusion and disintegration of the self – served as a catalyst for finding the visual influences for the video clip: the F.A.C.S. (Facial Action Coding System) research by Paul Ekman on one hand and the “Voight-Kampff” test sequence from Blade Runner on the other. The latter is something I have been in awe of since first seeing the movie as a teenager.
